Raleigh Holiday Tree Lighting & Community Celebration

Join us for a festive evening filled with holiday cheer! This community celebration features performances by talented students from Craigmont High School and Raleigh-Egypt Middle School, a holiday reading, and the much-anticipated tree lighting ceremony. Enjoy holiday music, giveaways, cookies, coffee, and crafts for kids. Meet local leaders, including Councilwoman Rhonda Logan, Commissioner Charlie Caswell, and other special guests, as we come together to celebrate the season. RLZ Paid Focus Group Info Session

Literacy Mid-South is working with Laura Taylor, an Associate Professor of Educational Studies at Rhodes College. As part of the Raleigh Literacy Zone initiative, we are working to learn more about the community's existing resources and needs to support literacy development

We are looking for parents and caregivers in the Raleigh area to help us with this work! Specifically, we are looking for people who would be willing to participate in an interview and take photographs of their family's literacy activities. Parents and caregivers can earn up to $200 for their participation, and the information they share will help inform future literacy investment in the community. You can find more details about the project, including frequently asked questions, here.

We will be hosting informational sessions coming up on October 17th(virtual) and October 22nd (in-person). People interested in learning more can sign up for a session at this linkEven if you are unable to attend one of those information sessions, we encourage you to sign up, so that we can let you know about future sessions.

Raleigh Literacy Fund Celebration

For the second year, the Raleigh Literacy Investment Fund is fueling literacy-building projects by and for the Raleigh community.

This year, 22 projects were submitted for consideration representing strength throughout the Raleigh area. With this year's six funded projects, Literacy Mid-South will have invested $80,000 in direct funding for Raleigh-based, literacy-building projects. 
 

We'll celebrate these six projects with a check presentation and reception at the Raleigh Branch Library on Friday, May 24th at 10:30am.

Raleigh Community Literacy Council

The Raleigh literacy zone’s Community Literacy Council (CLC) works with Literacy Mid-South to guide efforts to build literacy in Raleigh. This means directing funding, organizations, governments, school districts, and more to be responsive to the Raleigh community. The CLC is meant to be a group of Raleigh residents including pastors, business owners, organizational leaders, neighborhood leaders, parents, grandparents, etc.

Plan to join us on May 2nd at 5:30pm at the Shelby County Youth & Family Resources Center for an informational meeting on the CLC. Food will be provided.

Creative Sharing Embracing Vulnerability: Healing Through Spoken Word

Creative Sharing is a series of workshops, that will support local artists and inspire the community in their creative journeys.

The very first workshop is called, Embracing Vulnerability: Healing Through Spoken Word." The program guide is Kemmie Douglas, artistically known as Faith PQ (Poetikally Quoted).

She is an award willing slam poet. This is a great workshop for poets, spoken word artists, song writers, rap artists and anyone that is interested in learning.

There will also be an open mic for artists to share their talent.
